Teaching English in the JET Program? Did you know you can change to a student visa!
Are you on an instructor visa, perhaps on the JET Program teaching English?
If you want to dedicate time to learning Japanese in Japan, it may be possible to change to a student visa.
We must prepare many months in advance, before your instructor visa expires.
On a student visa, you will study full-time at a language school.
Classes are typically in the morning or afternoon.
About 4 hours of classes a day.
Make sure you plan on studying: It is called a student visa, after all!
It is possible to work part-time on a student visa, up to 28 hours a week.
Before, it used to be possible to apply without a COE (Certificate of Eligibility), but it is getting stricter.
We will help guide you to meet the requirements for the COE for a student visa.
By learning long-term, you can reach the recommended level to get into Japanese universities or vocational colleges, start a business or obtain employment in international companies around the world.
The below is one of the minimum requirements to apply for the COE for a student visa. (More may be required).
Proof of bank balance of your financial supporter.
The financial supporter must preferably be a direct member of your family, such as your spouse, parent or sibling.
Approximately 1,500,000 JPY (or equivalent in your currency at the time), shown in a bank statement.
This is so that the school and immigration know that you have the financial ability to pay for tuition, food, transport and accommodation for a year.
If you wish to sponsor yourself, you must show approximately 1,900,000 JPY.
It is possible to have more than 1 financial supporter; to combine the money to reach the required amount. They should be direct members of your family.
